We carry out research and support partners in meeting their data and intelligence needs, such as the West Midlands Regional Skills Partnership, Advantage West Midlands and Government Office for the West Midlands.
Here are some of our research projects around the themes of place and environment.

This first report from our new annual series draws out key themes emerging from the State of the Region dialogues in 2008, other research undertaken in the West Midlands, and links these themes to wider developments influencing regional policy and strategy.

We produced some early analysis of the West Midlands' performance on the Indices of Deprivation 2007, released by the Department for Communities and Local Government.
Based on the overall deprivation scores we calculated the proportion of lower super output areas in each local authority that were in the 10% most deprived in the country. A report on the West Midlands' performance, comparison with the rest of England and maps comparing performance of the West Midlands between 2004 and 2007 are available to download.

We use InstantAtlas maps to present a variety of datasets. These provide a geographical display of data to help understand how separate issues affect the region and localities.
We were commissioned by Government Office for the West Midlands to monitor the mandatory outcomes that all Local Area Agreements in Neighbourhood Renewal Fund areas are required to be assessed on. We are not monitoring the work of individual areas towards their targets but providing an overview for Government Office on the regional position.

In our annual Regional Skills Assessment we outline the key issues facing the West Midlands economy with regard to the skills agenda. We analyse skills issues from the perspective of sub-regions within the West Midlands and, in 2007, we also produced a rural profile. This profile provides analysis of skills issues specific to the rural parts of the West Midlands.
