The West Midlands Economic Strategy, Connecting to Success, was launched on 10 December 2007 by the Regional Minister, Liam Byrne.
The strategy contains a framework of headline and outcome indicators used for monitoring the progress of the strategy. We developed this framework in consultation with regional partners.
The framework consists of six headline indicators and 38 outcome indicators. The headline indicators are:
- Gross Value Added per head
- Regional index of sustainable economic well-being
- Worklessness (% of the working age population who are unemployed or economically inactive)
- GVA per employee
- Carbon emissions per £10,000 Gross Value Added
- Regional perceptions indicator
We are developing the regional perceptions indicator on behalf of Advantage West Midlands.
The outcome indicators have been selected to measure progress against each of the priorities identified within the Strategy. They all use data which are available consistently across England and are updated at least bi-annually.
To accompany the launch of the Stategy, we produced a Baseline Report (PDF, 1.04MB) on the headline and outcome indicators.
This Baseline Report provides details of each of the indicators, their latest values and trends. Where it is available, sub-regional comparisons are included, as are other relevant breakdowns. The report also gives information about the methodology used to select the indicators and the rationale for their inclusion.
The data for each of the indicators at regional level is available in Excel format in the Baseline Dataset (XLS, 224KB) published alongside the Baseline Report.
We were also involved in preparing a significant part of the evidence base which underpinned the review of the Strategy. Copies of the final reports can be found on the Downloads tab.
