Welcome to the first edition of the Society, Demography and Health bulletin.
The Observatory are pleased to have produced this with the help and support of the RDIN Society, Demography and Health Topic Group. Articles have been contributed both by members of the Topic Group and through wider networks and I would like to thank everyone involved.

Exploring attitudes, motivations and barriers to engagement in skills and employment among disadvantaged groups and communities
In spring 2007 the Observatory Skills Research team conducted research with the region's disadvantaged and excluded groups and communities on behalf of the Regional Skills Partnership to explore aspirations and motivations to access work and learning, barriers inhibiting participation and factors that could trigger increased participation. Providing ready access to public health data has previously been limited to paper reports and complicated mapping tools. Now, using InstantAtlas it is possible make large data sets widely accessible and at low cost. Read more »

The Warwickshire Observatory was formally launched in May 2007. It provides a research service for the County, where specialist research skills and expertise are brought together to facilitate high-quality research, providing evidence in support of policies, decisions and practice. Read more »
The opening up of the UK labour market to citizens of the European Accession state countries has encouraged a significant influx of migrant workers that has far outweighed initial government estimates made in the run up to enlargement and has prompted wide-ranging publicity. Read more »
The eighth annual “Quality of Life in Warwickshire” report has recently been published by the Warwickshire Observatory. The report provides an easily accessible reference on how quality of life in Warwickshire compares with elsewhere, and how it is changing over time. Read more »
WMRO has been working with GOWM for the past 18 months to provide performance monitoring reports on key floor targets. These are connected to the LAA process and we have developed our work to encompass this. Read more »
